Urbs in Horto Print
Urbs in Horto Print
This print was made for Chicago's 175th birthday in March 2012, and was part of the Flag and Seal Revisited printmaking show in Chicago's loop. This is our take on the city seal, and the motto 'Urbs in Horto', or 'City in a Garden'. It is letterpress printed entirely with hundreds of antique metal type and ornaments all set by hand. We built a partial cityscape of popular locations along with a nod to the bungalows that are a staple of our neighborhoods. All of these are surrounded by trees, foliage and flowers, printed in a whopping 7 different colors in a limited second edition.
You can read more about the first edition of the print here.
Printed on heavy speckled and recycled cardstock, the piece measures 14x18". It does not roll well, so it ships flat in a clear sleeve with a heavy backing sheet.
