As a former Fellow at the Newberry Library, it’s an honor to continue the relationship by creating broadsides commemorating library events. All of these prints are available at the Newberry’s Rosenberg Bookshop while supplies last.
The Newberry Library
The Library itself is the subject of this print, constructed of simple rules, squares and ornaments. Printed in 2 colors with an additional linoleum cut for texture.
Tom Deadlight
This was printed for the Spring 2019 Finding Melville at Sea show in the newly renovated gallery. Measuring 11x14”, the print features type set to mimic the sails on the ship of the dying sailor, with a circular debossed ring around the colophon, a reference to ‘deadlight’ or porthole. The ornaments are dusted with UV-activated powder so they glow slightly when exposed to light. This is to capture the idea of 'corpse light.’
Nova Reperta
This broadside, measuring 11x14”, was printed in connection with the Fall 2020 show, Renaissance Invention: Stradanus’ Nova Reperta. This collection of engravings included a print shop, so I created a rustic common press made of ornaments and modeled after a 1600’s print created in a similar style.
